Children in worship

at Sam Jones Memorial we offer opportunities for children ages three through high school to participate in worship.

8:30 and 11:00 am
3 years old through Second Grade
For children ages three and up we offer a children's sermon during each of our traditional worship services at 8:30 and 11:00 am.  Children who are 3, 4, or 5 years old may then follow the Children's Church leaders to room F-201 for Children's Church until worship is over.  Children who are six years old and up are strongly encouraged to stay in worship with their families as they learn the liturgies and traditions of the church.

8:30 and 11:00 am
Third Grade through Sixth Grade
Children who are in the third through sixth grades can train to be acolytes during our traditional worship services.  Trainings are usually held in July and August of each year.  Acolytes serve about once a month at the 8:30 am service and about once a quarter at the 11:00 am service.  Contact the Minister of Discipleship or the Minister of Music & Worship for more information.

Seventh through Twelfth Grade
Children who are in seventh through twelfth grades can train to be crucifers during our traditional worship services.  Trainings are held throughout the year.   Crucifers serve about once a month at the 8:30 am service and about once a quarter at the 11:00 am service.  Contact the Minister to Youth & their Families or the Minister of Music & Worship for more information.

9:45 am
Preschoolers
For preschoolers at our 9:45am service, we offer Pre-K Sunday School in room F-201.  Children who are six years old and up are strongly encouraged to stay in worship with their families as they learn the songs and other elements of the Celebration worship service.

Children who are in the third through twelfth grades can help in a variety of ways at the 9:45 am service from passing out registration pads, to collecting the offering, to making announcements.  Contact the Minister of Music & Worship for more information.

10:45 am Transition Time ("Tween Time")
Preschoolers
‘Tween Time meets from the end of Sunday School at 10:45 am until 11:15 am when Children's Church begins.  Tween Time is designed for children whose parents go to worship at 9:45 am and go to Sunday School at 11:00 am, allowing children to transition from 9:45 am Sunday School into 11:00 am Children's Church.  Children should be signed-in by parents at 10:45 am and picked up at 12:00 pm after Children's Church.  Parents who worship at the 11:00 am service should bring their children to worship first then send them to Children's Church after the children's sermon.
