2006-2007

The Children's Learning Center is a self-supporting, non-profit organization whose policies are determined by the Weekday Committee of Sam Jones United Methodist Church.  Our teachers are hired annually through this committee.  Through their qualified leadership and the limited class size, your child is guaranteed the best possible pre-school education at the lowest possible cost.

REGISTRATION AND TUITION

A non-refundable enrollment fee of $75.00 per child (members) and $125.00 (non-members) is required upon registration.

Our tuition is set as a yearly fee divided into nine (9) equal monthly payments, due September through May as follows:

Two days a week        $1170.00 yearly       $130.00 monthly
Three days a week     $1350.00 yearly       $150.00 monthly
Five days a week        $1665.00 yearly       $185.00 monthly

This fee remains the same each month regardless of how many days your child is absent.  Tuition payments are due on the first (1st) of each month.  There will be a $5.00 late fee if payment is not received by the tenth (10th) of each month.  Late fees will be assessed!  Repeated late payments may result in the loss of your child's classroom placement!  If your child withdraws from school during the school year one months notice is required.

All checks should be made payable to: The Children's Learning Center.  Please include the child's name and the month that you are paying for on your check.  Tuition payments may be made at the church office or mailed to the following address:

SCHOOL HOURS

The school operates daily from 8:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.  It is very important to be prompt in bringing and picking up your child.  Young children are distressed if they arrive at school after their friends have begun some fun activity and also if they are left at school after others have gone home. The doors to the Family Life Center will be locked from 8:50 until 11:10 each morning. If you need to get into the building to pick up your child early, please ring the buzzers which are located next to each outside door, and someone will let you in.

Arrival

A busy day is planned for your child beginning at 8:30a.m.  It is also pertinent that your child be here on time so teachers and classrooms are not interrupted.  If you bring your child before 8:15a.m., please take her/him to the holding station.  The holding station is available at 8:00a.m. for those children who need to be dropped off early.  This is located on the 2nd floor of the Family Life Center, Room  202.

Dismissal

Dismissal is 11:15-11:30 a.m.  To pick up your child, please pull your car up to the double doors and the teacher will bring your child to the car.  If you get out of your car, please stay outside the lobby, and we will bring your child to you. It gets very crowded and hectic with parents coming inside. We are very concerned for the safety of your children, and we feel like this is the safest way to handle pick up time. PLEASE do not come in and take your child without telling his/her teacher. If you need to discuss school matters with your child's teacher or the director, please contact her by phone outside school hours.  An appointment for a conference may be set up if needed.  Our teachers are parents of young children, too, and need to be free to attend to their families as soon as school is dismissed.  If you know you will be late, please make other arrangements for your child to be picked up.  (If an EMERGENCY situation delays you, please contact the office, 770/382-4772, to advise us.)  A $10.00 fine will be imposed the first and second time a child is left after the 11:30 dismissal time.  A fine of $10.00 plus $1.00 per minute will be imposed each time thereafter.

NOTE ON PARKING: PLEASE DO NOT PARK IN HANDICAPPED PARKING SPACES (unless you have a handicapped parking permit)!  These spaces are reserved for handicapped permit parking only!!!!!

MEDICAL AND HEALTH INFORMATION

Please do not send your child to school if he/she has a fever or shows signs of illness.  Symptoms which preclude attendance are:  red or discharging eyes, runny nose, coughing, stomachache, diarrhea, chills, fever, sore throat, vomiting, and/or earache.  Your child will be sent home if he/she comes to school with any of these symptoms.

If your child develops a contagious disease, please notify the director so that other parents can be notified.  Notify the teacher of any chronic conditions that are not contagious.  If any symptoms of illness are detected upon arrival at school, the teacher reserves the right to send the child home.  If illness develops during school hours, the child will be isolated and the parents notified.

BIRTHDAYS

A young child's birthday is probably the most important day of the year to them.  We try to make the "birthday child" feel special on that day.  If you plan something special on their birthday, please let the teacher know in advance.

STATE REQUIREMENTS

We are required by the state to keep an up-to-date immunization record on your child.  This is strictly enforced by the state.  Please send a copy to the director or to your child's teacher within the first two weeks of school.  Your child will not be able to attend school without this record.

RELIGIOUS INFORMATION

We believe that Christ reveals Himself to others through us and our actions.  We strive to provide an atmosphere of Christian love.  We celebrate Christian holidays, and we have blessings before our snacks.

CHURCH AND SCHOOL RULES

1.      Please observe the "NO SMOKING" rule in all parts of the building.

2.      Know the locations of the fire exits.

3.      When your teacher states it, your child may bring a favorite      toy from home.  Please label it.  It should be indestructible.  NO GUNS, WATER TOYS, or other toys that might be dangerous.

PROCEDURES FOR THE CHILDREN

1.      Please dress in play clothes.

2.      Please mark all outer clothes with the child's name.

3.      If your child is not trained, please send a diaper bag marked with your child's name, containing the following:

            1.  2-3 diapers

            2.  wash cloths or baby wipes

            3.  a change of clothes.

            4.  a plastic zip lock bag for dirty clothes

4.      Nursery mothers should provide a cup with a top for their children.  Please mark it with the child's name and leave it in the room.

5.      Bottles will be allowed in the nursery only.

DISCIPLINE

The teacher will determine when a child needs to be disciplined and will discuss with parents when discipline has been used.  We may use a "time out" chair or simply talk to the child individually.  Physical discipline will not be used.

ROOM GUIDELINES

1.      Walk inside the room.  Running is for outside.

2.      Use a quiet voice.  Loud voices are for outside.

3.      Everyone is safe in our room.  People are for loving, not hitting, biting, kicking, pushing, or scratching.

4.      Stand on the floor, not in chairs, on tables or house equipment.

5.      Sit on chairs (four legs on the floor).

6.      Water stays in the sink.  It is for washing hands and faces.

7.      Flush the toilet after using and wash hands with soap.

8.      Objects should be returned to their proper places after use.

9.      Toy pieces are to be taken out one at a time, not dumped.

SNACK TIME

Snack time is an educational experience in itself.  The emphasis is on nutritious snacks, which can be made by the children during class time, or brought in by the participating parent.  The habits which the children pick up now will be with them for a long time.  Since we know that bad habits are hard to break, it would be beneficial to your child as well as to the others to encourage good eating habits.  Please avoid bringing food containing artificial colors, sweeteners, and preservatives. No red drinks are allowed in the rooms. See below for some snack suggestions.
