Sam Jones Memorial UMC is a Stephen Ministry congregation

Recognized by Stephen Ministries in St. Louis, MO.
Stephen Ministry is a program that equips lay persons to provide distinctively Christian one-on-one care to those who are experiencing all kinds of life needs and circumstances, both in our congregation and community.
Stephen Leaders are called and selected Christians who have completed a seven-day Stephen Series Leader's Training Course. They are commissioned to lead the Stephen Ministry of Sam Jones Memorial UMC.
Stephen Leaders can:
help you or someone you know receive care from a Stephen Minister
tell you how to become a Stephen Minister
tell you about Stephen Ministry training and Sam Jones' next raining class
answer other questions about the Stephen Ministry program
Stephen Ministers are committed Christians who have responded to the call to share God's love by intentionally caring for others. These ministers are selected, trained, commissioned and supervised by Stephen Leaders.
Stephen Ministers are:
trained in care skills such as listening, confidentiality and prayer during an initial 50-hour training session
assigned a care receiver and meet with that person regularly and dependably for as long as care is needed
committed to preserving the confidential nature of a caring relationship
required to meet twice a month for continued education and small group peer supervision
Stephen Ministers provide one-on-one Christian care to people facing a personal crisis or transition. Care Receivers include, but are not limited to, members of the congregation and community who are:
hospitalized
grieving
aging or disabled
facing unemployment
separated or divorced
terminally ill
homebound or institutionalized
facing crisis or transitions
experiencing a spiritual crisis
Because Stephen Ministry is confidential ministry, those receiving care can be sure that their identity and what happens in the caring relationship will remain private.
