Adult Bible Study Schedule Winter-Spring 2008

Starting in January:
Beth Moore study “A Woman’s Heart.” This 11 week study focuses on the book of Exodus and explores the meaning behind God’s choice to live in a wilderness tabernacle, as well as the parallels between the tabernacle of the Exodus story and the tabernacle of the human heart.
Will meet Wednesdays from 6-8pm in the Family Life Center and Sundays from 5-7pm in the Family Life Center.

Precept Upon Precept Bible Study: The Book of James - What is true faith? How should you live the Christian life? Each verse of this practical 16 week study is alive with instructions, admonition, and encouragement. Learn God's principles for dealing with trials, temptations, the tongue, and the pull of the world.
Meets Thursday mornings from 9:00 - 11:30 in room F-305

Starting in February:
A Lenten study of Jesus’ life, trial, death, and resurrection. Based on TV specials from the Biography and History channels, and taught by the Rev. Ted Langford.
Begins Wednesday, February 13th and runs through Wednesday, March 19th
(6 weeks) from 6-7:30pm in the Family Life Center.

Adult Bible Study Descriptions

Disciple Bible Study (I, II, III or IV): Family Life Center, 3rd Floor
A 34-week course of in-depth Bible study is offered each year for those who wish to participate in advanced study.  Disciple emphasizes disciplined reading of and listening to the Scriptures.  This course aims not just at information, but also at transformation, and involves video, discussion, and home study.  Courses are available in both daytime and evening hours during the week and follow the school-year schedule (e.g. classes meet August through May).  Call the church office to sign-up.

Precept Bible Study: Family Life Center, 3rd Floor
Precept uses the “inductive study method” to direct class members to Jesus Christ through systematic study of the Word.  Precept Upon Precept classes, the most intensive of Precept’s courses, meet Thursday mornings from 9-11:30 am.  There are also other Precept classes of various lengths offered throughout the year.  Call the church office to sign-up.

Short-Term Studies: Family Life Center, 3rd Floor
Throughout the year various adult Bible studies are offered on Wednesday evenings at either 6 or 6:30pm (past studies have included intensive studies like Beth Moore, training sessions like Stephen Ministry, and shorter studies like Precept Light).  There are also seasonal studies for Lent, Advent and other special times of the year. Newcomer’s Class: Family Life Center, 3rd Floor
Offered periodically, these classes offer newcomers and visitors an orientation and overview of United Methodist Church beliefs and the history of Sam Jones Memorial United Methodist Church.  Call the church office for more information.
